Ranking system, all medals now count towards the overall

Gold = 3pts Silver = 2pts Bronze = 1pt

A bonus point is added on for every round a medallist beats an opponent (not for a bye) so if you win your first round, 1/4 final, 1/2 final and final to take gold you would get 6 pts for your gold, but if there were only two competitors and you win that final you get 4pts.

If there is a tie on points at the end of the year it then goes down to most gold, silver, bronze, if still a tie then patterns medals take priority over sparring.

Competition

Our controlled competitive environments allow practitioners to display and improve their skills in a safe environment. Although some may think it is all about "who is better", that is only a part of their purpose in Taekwon-Do.

In general, there are basically two types of tournaments:
1. Winning a trophy at any cost, while exclaiming victory and scorning defeat
2. Competing with a good attitude (possibly winning a trophy) and learning under ideal conditions.

Remember that tournaments are not just for a trophy. They allow our members to meet new people, make new friends, put nerves to the test, and display skills. By focusing on these purposes, it is very possible to be happy whether one wins or loses. Most people think that the reward at a tournament is the trophy. By eliminating this idea, we eliminate the unnecessary devastation of leaving without a trophy. There are three levels of tournaments :

1.    Local - The Grand Prix series and starting this year the Colour belt team competition are open to all grades, other regions have their equivalents such as the London Open.
2.    National - The British, English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh Opens and Four Nations. The Opens are from         yellow belt upwards and the Four Nations is competed by the national black belt teams.
 3.    International - The European Championships and the World Championships and this level is only open to black belts through squad selection.
